Working with Children as an Educator you play a vital role in their development and learning in the first 5 years. 

The size of a child’s brain reaches 90 per cent of an adult’s by the age of five. Early childhood is a time of rapid change – particularly for the development of a child’s brain. These early years are critical for lifelong learning and well-being. Talking, reading, playing and singing with babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers is so important in shaping thinking and emotional patterns for life and influencing learning, relationships and resilience.

What skills do you need?

When working with children it is important to have the theoretical and practical knowledge of child development and how to teach and support them in their learning. You will also need interpersonal skills, such as active listening and being able to talk and converse with the children, patience, creativity and have good ethics. It is also part of the quality standards that Educators are strong role models to support children to become environmentally responsible.

What Qualifications are required?

You can start straight away to gain that theoretical and practical knowledge by studying a CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care while you are working or looking for a position. It will usually take about 12 months to complete depending on what skills and experience you bring to the studies. From there your Career will take off and you will be able to start looking for a promotion to a team leader role whilst studying the CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care. From there its onward to a Bachelor degree and as there is such a skills shortage in the NT particularly, but also throughout Australia, once you have started your degree you will be able to apply for an Early Childhood Teachers role. This is all possible in 3 short years, and yes I have many students that have done just that!

The Australian and NT Government in identifying the skills shortages in Child Care Centres and the many jobs available not being filled has provided Funding under Job Trainer Program.

Job Trainer Funding is available to those eligible applicants for both the CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care and the CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.
